I’m sorry I’ve not posted much recently, it’s mainly because I have quite a bit going on currently, so I’ve not really had time. I’ll be moving house at the end of this month/beginning of July, but I’ll try and post something up after then
Until then!

So today, I received a Toshiba Qosmio G40 from the nice guys over at talktoshiba.com and I have to say - I was a bit sceptical when they approached me asking if i wanted to borrow a £2000 laptop for a few weeks.
All of that was gone however when DHL turned up at the door
My first impressions of the machine are:
- It’s big - really big (intended as a desktop replacement I assume)
- It’s not THAT attractive, I think this is partly the size though
- Sound is good quality
- Screen is good quality
I’ll post some more thoughts over the coming weeks, ending with a final review, which could just be a collection of all previous comments in 1 big post
UPDATE
Some pictures for you to look at

I’ve just noticed that the bottom left corner of my laptop casing is cracked - to the point where a little bit has actually come off!
I’m not very impressed with this, as checking the bottom right (i.e. bottom right left when working on it) reveals that has a crack as well.
I think I’ll end up taking it back to Currys and complaining, I only had the laptop for ~6 months, which means it’s still under warranty

As far as I was aware, Dell PC’s are only available by buying direct from Dell…so howcome I went to my local PC World / Currys earlier, and in BOTH stores (they are owned by the same parent company) there were Dell PC’s there on the shelf.
I’m somewhat confused about this because it’s only very recently I’ve started to see them on store shelves, if anybody can shed some light on this it’d be much appreciated

Some of you will like this one
I emailed Nokia Customer Support the other day, following my reading of a thread on the Ubuntu Forums which made me realise that nobody has managed to successfully get Nokia PC Suite running on Linux. However there are client’s out for Windows & Mac OS , and you are asked what Operating System you use when you fill in the support request, where Linux is in fact an option.
Great! I thought, I might actually get directed to a Linux version, it’s more than most websites to even list it.
Oh how wrong I was…
Below you’ll find the exact email reply I received (with the persons name removed):
Dear Joe,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Care.
With regard to your email, please note that Nokia PC Suite is designed to facilitate connectivity between your Nokia phones and Windows operating system. Your best option at this point in time would be to get in touch with Linux to see if they have any software that will enable the synchronization between the Nokia mobile phones and your Linux system.
Kind regards,
Nokia Care
How I laughed when I read that my “best option at this point in time would be to get in touch with Linux“. I’m wondering exactly how I’d go about doing this? Am I just supposed to send an email off to Linus Torvalds and moan at him that my phone isn’t properly supported?
Anyway, I just wanted to moan at the somewhat disappointing response I received, although I did receive it in less than 24 hours, which isn’t to be complained about

So here I was, about to get into bad this morning (just before 1am) and the whole house started shaking!!! I’d figured it was an earthquake (houses don’t shake that often so…) and I had a flick on the news channels on TV, sure enough on Sky News, it was being reported that there was an earthquake felt in Leicestershire (my region) and other places across the UK.
This was somewhat good news, because I knew I wasn’t imagining it. Further reading this morning tells me that it was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake. And we don’t get many that size here in the UK.
Anyway, here is a link to the BBC News article

I was reading a thread on the Ubuntu Forums earlier, and there was a link to a website containing a load of quotes from clients (as far as I’m aware, they’re all real as well…it’s definitely believable :p).
Anyway it gave me a good laugh, so I thought I’d share it with people
The top 20 quotes can be found here.
